I feel like the art of letter writing and mailing art as communication is dead. Social digital media becomes a favored form of communication. Text messages are short and brisk.
I have been sending drawings and letters to people all over the globe for the past five years. I have received a handful of replies. The most notable being a post card from Charles Bronson who is in solitary confinement in the UK prison system.
However, the majority of my correspondence has been replied to with a text message or an email saying “I got your letter. I got your art. Thanks.” I don’t do this to get a return though, but it is interesting the form that it is communicated in. There is an artist in Canada that I befriended on live journal. To each letter or art I send in the mail, I receive a Facebook message “Sorry, I am so busy lately. I cannot write back. I am sorry. Thanks.”
I drew all 10 of these drawings in public at a restaurant. All of these drawings are of my left hand.
Tomorrow, I will mail them all out to people that I know and even strangers with a return PO Box address.
I am doing this, because it is what I do. I enjoy sharing my art.
